It's a Beautiful Day to be Sun Burned

Greetings from the land down under,

Well it has been a short time since I last wrote.

So here is the news as it is:

I have 3 new housemates (2 guys and a dog) so far so good. The house is cleaning up nicely. As most of you know I am a pack rat. But I am NOTHING compared to the 2 housemates that just moved out. I really had no clue how large my house really is. Now that their stuff is gone, everything is so nice and roomy.

Small profiles on the new flatties:
Jake: age 21 years works for a recruitment agency. Just moved to Sydney from Brisbane.
Ian: age 29 years works for government housing. Owns a house about 2 hours North of here and was commuting to the city each day. Now he is checking out city living.
Rufus: age 10 months And everybody works for him. (at least that us what he thinks)

Somehow I have been roped into being a co-coordinator for a community garden around the corner from me. It was a women's community garden to grow food, and it has not been touched in probably 6 months. A number of people and I are going to make it into a general community food garden. It looks like a good plot of land and this could be much fun. Here is info on what it once was Women's Community Garden

This week is also Thinking Day: for those who were never involved in Girl Scouts Thinking Day is a Girl Guide and Girl Scout Holiday when Troops and Units think about other countries and other ways of life. And mostly whink about the Girl Guide and Girl Scout Community as a whole. I will be celebrating this in Centenial Park tomorrow night. This I am sure will be the first of many things I do with the Guides here in Sydney.

And my news goes on: this month is the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. All month there are parties, art exhibits, preformances, movies, and general hoopala. It is impossable to go anywhere without seeing something for the Mardi Gras.

So far I have gone to the Launch (a political and entertaining event) they said that there were 22,000 people there, all in front of the Famous Sydney Opera House. And the headliner was a Drag Queen named Tina C. (you know: Tennesee) Country western singer. YeeHaw! I have also made it to a couple photography exhibits. And right now I am nursing a massive sun burn from Fair Day. Just a big day where everyone and there sister has a booth containing: merch, art, and political stuff. If you want to see what Mardi Gras is about you can go here to check it out

So I think that is it for now. Things are moving right along.

Last update I had said what I missed at home, someone asked me what I will miss when I leave here, so here are a couple of things:

Crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge Every Day
Being 30 minutes from the Ocean
Thai Food Everywhere
Asian Stores with all the random Junk
Outdoor Markets (so many to choose from!)

Here is the vocab lesson you have been waiting for:

Breakkie Breakfast
Arvo Afternoon
Evo Evening
Retrenched Laid Off
A backpackers' A youth hostel
Bludger Lazy Bum
Cuppa Cup of Tea or Coffee
Flattie Flat Mate (Housemate)

As always I would love to here from you.

Take Care,
Tia
